In 1975, West African states established ECOWAS as a first step toward integrating the regional economy. Simplifying and harmonizing trade policy will help make West African companies more competitive in world markets. The Trade Hub is working with ECOWAS to implement a Common External Tariff and is studying how well member states are implementing ECOWAS protocols, which are the foundation of regional integration.
